Wednesday, March 7, 2007. Today I visited a kickboxing gym in Indianapolis, The Indianapolis Martial Arts Club. What a different kind of workout- it's Muay Thai kickboxing.

From the outfits and music to the discipline and tradition, this sport is much deeper than just the physical elements, that's why it is very different from other workouts, it's an art! Originally from Thailand , Muay Thai is an ancient martial art and a form of unarmed combat. It dates back over 1000 years and is considered the sport of 8 weapons because it utilizes hands, feet, knees, and elbows for weapons. All 8 weapons are trained equally to be effective against opponents at any distance.

On a physical level, Muay Thai training will get you in excellent shape. You can loose inches, get stronger and learn to move better. On a mental level, Muay Thai teaches you to self-discipline and inner-strength. It helps improve your self-confidence and self-awareness.

I love the respect I witnessed from the students for the instructor and for the other participants! Before you are allowed to attend one of their group classes, all potential students must work with a head instructor personally for a basic skill and commitment assessment and to learn the basic moves and traditions. If you are looking for something different, you have found your workout!
